Starka’s Semi-Integrated Solar Street Light combines a luminaire with an inbuilt LiFePO4 battery and a separately mounted solar panel, giving you high output with easy installation.

1. What is a semi-integrated solar street light and how is it different from other solar street lights?

A semi-integrated solar street light is a design in which the LED luminaire, the MPPT charge controller and the LiFePO4 battery are housed together in one die-cast aluminium body, while the solar panel is mounted separately on the pole. This is different from an all-in-one light, where the panel is also built into the same unit, and from a conventional system, where the battery sits in a separate box. Because the panel is separate, Starka can fit a larger panel and tilt it towards the sun for better charging, while keeping the battery protected inside the luminaire and the installation quick and tidy.

2. Which wattages are available in the Starka Semi-Integrated Solar Street Light?

The Starka Semi-Integrated Solar Street Light is available in 9W, 12W, 15W, 18W, 20W, 25W, 30W, 35W and 40W models, and higher wattages can be engineered on request. Each wattage is matched with a correctly sized solar panel: 40Wp for 9W, 12W and 15W, 50Wp for 18W, 60Wp for 20W, 75Wp for 25W and 100Wp for 30W. If your site, budget or tender specification needs a different combination of wattage, battery capacity or panel size, Starka’s in-house design team can customise the light for you.

3. How does a semi-integrated solar street light work automatically from dusk to dawn?

During the day, the solar panel converts sunlight into electricity, and the MPPT charge controller uses that energy to charge the inbuilt LiFePO4 battery as efficiently as possible. When the panel stops receiving light in the evening, the controller senses darkness and switches the luminaire ON automatically, then runs it according to the programmed brightness schedule. As soon as daylight falls on the panel in the morning, the light switches OFF and the battery starts charging again, so the whole cycle repeats every day without any manual switch or electricity bill.

4. How many hours of backup does the semi-integrated solar street light give?

The standard Starka semi-integrated light is designed to give about 12 hours of backup every night using its smart dimming mode. In the regular programme, the light runs at 100% brightness for the first 5 hours after dusk and then at 50% brightness for the rest of the night, which saves battery energy while still keeping the area well lit. The backup time and dimming steps can be customised using a 2, 3 or 4-step programme, so you can get longer backup or brighter output depending on your site requirements.

5. What is dimming in a solar street light and can I change the dimming programme?

Dimming is a battery-saving programme that automatically reduces the light’s brightness during low-traffic hours of the night so that the stored solar energy lasts until morning. Starka’s standard programme runs the light at 100% brightness for the first 5 hours and then at 50% brightness for the remaining hours. Yes, the programme can be changed: Starka can set 2-step, 3-step or 4-step dimming as per your requirement, and models with a PIR motion sensor can increase brightness automatically when a person or vehicle is detected.

6. Which battery, LED and solar panel are used in the Starka semi-integrated street light?

Starka uses a LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery with a life of about 2,000 charge cycles and a BMS that provides short-circuit protection. The light uses OSRAM LEDs delivering about 130 lumens per watt, so you get bright and efficient illumination from a low wattage. The solar panels are BIS-approved Jyotitech modules with a low efficiency degradation of about 0.8% per year, and the luminaire is built in an aluminium die-cast metallic body that is IP65 tested and rust-proof for long outdoor life.

7. How do I install a semi-integrated solar street light?

First, dig a pit of 2.5 to 3 feet and prepare a concrete mix of sand, aggregate and cement (an octagonal pole needs a proper foundation instead). Unpack the kit, check the luminaire, panel, arm, structure and nut-bolts, and connect the two battery wires to each other to confirm the light switches on. Mount the panel on its structure and the structure on the pole, fix the arm and the luminaire, then connect the light’s positive wire to the panel positive and negative to negative, check the green and red indicators, and finally set the pole in the pit with concrete and let it cure.

8. What is included in the Starka semi-integrated solar street light kit?

Every kit includes the luminaire with inbuilt battery, the solar panel, the light arm, the panel mounting structure, nut-bolts, clamps and insulation tape. Starka supplies everything needed for installing the light, so you do not have to buy even a single nut, bolt or roll of tape separately. Poles can be supplied as per your requirement, including a 6 m GI pole (76 mm OD, approx. 14 kg) and octagonal GI poles of 6 m, 7 m and 9 m with J-bolts for project and tender installations.

10. Where can a semi-integrated solar street light be used?

The semi-integrated solar street light is suitable for village and city streets, internal roads, farm houses, resorts, house gardens and yards, temple campuses, staircases and many other outdoor spaces. It can be installed anywhere you need light without running an electricity cable, as long as the solar panel gets proper, shadow-free sunlight during the day. This makes it a practical choice for gram panchayats, housing societies, institutions and private owners who want low-maintenance lighting with no monthly electricity bill.
